WHEN BLAST VALVE IS REQUIRED
Blast valves are required in protective shelters and hardened facilities where there is a risk of explosions caused by conventional weapons, accidental industrial blasts, or other high-pressure events. Their primary purpose is to protect the ventilation system by automatically closing when a blast wave reaches the air intake or exhaust opening. This prevents the high-pressure shock wave from entering the shelter, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the ventilation system and ensuring the safety of occupants inside.
In addition to blast protection, blast valves are essential for maintaining a continuous supply of fresh air under normal operating conditions. During everyday use, the valve remains open to allow proper airflow for ventilation and occupant comfort. Blast valves are commonly installed in military bunkers, civil defense shelters, underground command centers, embassies, ammunition storage facilities, nuclear power plants, and critical infrastructure where personnel and equipment must be protected from blast effects. They are often used alongside CBRNe filtration systems to provide comprehensive protection against blast pressure as well as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear contaminants. This combination ensures that the shelter remains both structurally secure and environmentally safe during emergency situations.
